After CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and elected to field, his decision backfired spectacularly as the Titans’ top order dismantled the CSK bowling attack. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was fined INR 24 lakh. Furthermore, the remaining members of the playing XI, including the designated Impact Player, were also penalized, with each player facing a fine of either INR 6 lakh or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, depending on which amount was lower.

The official statement from the IPL confirmed the decision: “Ruturaj Gaikwad, Captain, Chennai Super Kings, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 66 of TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against Gujarat Titans. As this was his team’s second offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, Gaikwad was fined INR 24 lakhs.”
