RCB’s Tim David Handed One-Match Ban After IPL 2026 Final Disciplinary Breach
Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Tim David has been handed a one-match suspension for the 2027 IPL season after breaching the tournament’s Code of Conduct during the IPL 2026 final against Gujarat Titans.

While the Bengaluru franchise celebrated another successful campaign, David’s actions during the match attracted disciplinary attention from the IPL authorities. According to the league, the Australian batter was fined 50 percent of his match fee and also received two demerit points for a Level 1 offence.
Incident Details
The punishment came after David was found guilty of violating Article 2.9 of the IPL Code of Conduct. The rule relates to throwing a ball or any other piece of cricket equipment in an inappropriate or dangerous manner during a match. David aggressively threw an ice bag in the direction of on-field umpire Nitin Menon during the first innings of the final as per reports.
“Tim David, Batter, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), has been fined 50 per cent of his match fee and has also accumulated two Demerit Points for breaching Level 1 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials,” the IPL said.
“David was found to have breached Article 2.9 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which relates to “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a Player, Team Official, Umpire, Match Referee or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during a Match.”
Disciplinary Record
Although the offence itself resulted in two demerit points, the bigger issue was David’s disciplinary record throughout the season. This was his third Code of Conduct breach during IPL 2026.
Earlier in the tournament, he had already collected three demerit points from separate incidents involving inappropriate gestures and failure to follow an umpire’s instruction. The latest offence increased his tally to five demerit points, automatically triggering a one-match suspension under IPL regulations.
As a result, David will miss the opening match of the IPL 2027 season for whichever franchise he represents.
