DPL Dominance: Mithun and Shibli Centuries Power Massive Wins
A Day of Batting Brilliance in the DPL
The Dhaka Premier League (DPL) delivered a spectacle of high-octane cricket as two teams stamped their authority on the competition with comprehensive wins. Legends of Rupganj and Dhaka Leopards showcased their batting depth and bowling prowess, leaving their opponents struggling to keep pace in what proved to be a dominant outing for both sides.
Legends of Rupganj Outclass Gulshan Cricket Club
At BKSP Ground No. 4, the Legends of Rupganj demonstrated why they are a force to be reckoned with. After posting a daunting total of 354 runs, they dismantled the Gulshan Cricket Club batting order to secure a commanding 205-run victory.
The centerpiece of the Rupganj innings was the impeccable Ashiqur Rahman Shibli. Opening the batting, Shibli anchored the team with a measured yet aggressive 119 runs off 130 balls. His innings was marked by elegance and power, featuring 9 fours and 4 sixes. He found a perfect ally in Robiul Islam, with whom he stitched together a pivotal 155-run partnership. Robiul contributed a solid 65, ensuring a strong foundation.
The late-innings acceleration was provided by Samiun Basir Ratul, who blitzed his way to 47 off just 30 deliveries, and captain Mahedi Hasan, whose fiery 33 off 18 balls ensured the team crossed the 350-run mark. In response, Gulshan Cricket Club found themselves in immediate trouble. Spinner Nasum Ahmed dictated terms, dismantling the opposition with a clinical four-wicket haul. Despite a resilient 61-run effort from Shahriar Sakib, the Gulshan side was skittled out for a mere 149 runs.
Dhaka Leopards Overpower Brothers Union
Simultaneously, at the Cricketers Academy Ground, the Dhaka Leopards were busy carving out an equally impressive 120-run victory over Brothers Union in a high-scoring thriller. Choosing to bat first, the Leopards set an imposing target of 351 for 7.
The highlight of the match was the explosive batting display from captain Mohammad Mithun. After Iftakhar Hossain Ifti provided a steady start with a well-compiled 51, Mithun took center stage. The experienced batter dismantled the Brothers Union bowling attack, racing to 112 runs off just 86 balls. His innings was a display of sheer power, highlighted by 8 massive sixes and 3 fours. Moin Khan further compounded the agony for the bowlers with an aggressive 69 off 44 balls.
Facing a massive mountain to climb, Brothers Union began the chase with positive intent. However, they lacked the requisite partnerships to sustain the momentum. While several batters managed to get starts, the Dhaka Leopards’ disciplined bowling attack ensured no one converted those starts into a defining innings. Golam Kibria fought till the end to remain unbeaten on 51, but the target proved too steep as Brothers Union were bowled out for 231.
The Leopards’ victory was solidified by their bowling unit, specifically Alauddin Babu and Sheikh Parvez Jibon, who shared six wickets between them, ending the match with three scalps each. These results underscore the competitive nature of the current DPL season, where batting depth and consistent bowling remain the keys to success.
