Bangladesh Pace Attack on the Rise
Bangladesh pace spearhead Taskin Ahmed believes the country’s fast-bowling unit is now among the best in world cricket, saying the Tigers are performing at a level worthy of being ranked in the top three pace attacks globally.
The experienced fast bowler has taken great pride in the steady rise of Bangladesh’s pacers over the past few years. Since returning to international cricket after the COVID-19 pandemic, Taskin has played a key role in what many describe as Bangladesh’s pace-bowling revolution.
A Depth of Talent
What excites him even more is the depth the team has. Bangladesh have reached a stage where in-form fast bowlers are sometimes left out of the national side, yet the team continues to perform effectively through rotation. “I believe we are performing well enough to be considered among the top three pace units,” Taskin said. “Everyone is hungry to improve. We are learning all the time and getting better, although there is still a long way to go.
Taskin also feels that opposing teams may now think twice before preparing pace-friendly pitches against Bangladesh. “You never know what conditions you’ll get or what kind of wicket the opposition will prepare,” he said. “But our bowling group has variety. Whatever the conditions are, we have the ability to adapt.
A Bright Future
For years, Taskin was the most talked-about name in Bangladesh’s pace attack. Now, young speedster Nahid Rana has emerged as one of the country’s biggest fast-bowling attractions, while Mustafizur Rahman continues to be one of Bangladesh’s most reliable performers.
Taskin says seeing different bowlers step up at different times is one of the most satisfying aspects of the team’s growth. “It feels great. No player stays at the top all the time. Someone always steps up and takes the lead when needed, and everyone contributes. That’s a wonderful feeling.”
The right-arm pacer is particularly pleased to see international batters struggling against Bangladesh’s fast bowlers, especially Nahid Rana. “When teams play overseas, there is usually an express fast bowler that opponents are wary of. Rana is a great prospect. He is a huge asset for the team and the country,” Taskin said.
“One day none of us will be playing anymore, but we want this pace-bowling culture to continue and keep Bangladesh moving forward. I hope Nahid achieves great success and helps take us to even greater heights. The fact that world cricket is talking about Bangladesh’s pace attack is a massive achievement for us.”
